I. OBTAINING PERMITS AND OTHER BUREAUCRACY

Obtaining a permit to hold your event can protect you from some measure of harassment from local authorities. In the city of Wilmington, there are two types of permits that can accomplish this goal: the Notice of Intent to Picket obtained through the chief of police, or a Special Events Permit obtained through R.T. Jones, the Recreation Program Specialist with the City of Wilmington - Parks and Recreation division.
The differences between the two permits are that the latter is required if your event occurs on a street or meets other fixed conditions. For our purposes, we will be focusing solely on the Notice of Intent to Picket.
