IV. DISPERSAL FORMATION

Vacating The Area (Air)

This formation is the final and all encompassing formation that everyone involved with the protest inherently will become a part of. This is how we will leave the area after cessation of protest efforts of the day, and all necessary clean up and announcements have been made.

Air is an element that inherently moves to fill the container in which it exists. When the container does not exist, it disperses itself in all directions with little limitation, and continues motion until presented with obstruction. To this end, when all protest functions cease, we will disperse completely into the surrounding areas to our homes in order to safely begin the process again.

There are going to be two methods by which we disperse at the end of a protest day. The first is reliant upon a day protest, the other will be reliant upon a protest that continues into the night hours.

After a day protest, a complete dissolution and dispersion is both effective and safe. Under the protection of both daylight and routine day traffic, we can find our way to our vehicles or homes with little fear of unknown aggressors becoming suddenly known on our paths, and with little fear of undue aggression from police forces present (who seem to become exponentially more likely to use force/arrests once darkness falls). Our individual units (family/friends/partners) will break away and head in their own directions, separating further as necessary to ensure safe delivery at home. Be advised, this does not mean we should be complacent. We are our neighbors keeper, here, and must ensure that we remain cognizant of our surroundings and safe arrivals.

After a night protest, this dispersion becomes subtly more complicated. Presuming a completely peaceful protest with no aggressive police response, our main focus will be protecting ourselves from bad actors who may decide the best time to make themselves known is when we are, as a group, at our weakest. To this end, there are a couple of guidelines we MUST follow:

  • We will maintain ourselves in small and observant groups, ensuring that we are not followed to our homes or vehicles. If anyone of a suspicious nature is detected, we will report them directly to leadership so that they can be noted and followed up on. If detected, we will continue on a path that does not directly lead to either personal vehicles or homesteads until we can be rendered safe by pickup of a designated and affiliated vehicle.

  • We will, if utilizing a vehicle, maintain traffic laws so as not to provoke police units into greater presence, and to keep our participants from undue financial burden.

  • We will ensure that every participant fully enters their place of residence and closes the door fully before we move on to the next drop off.

  • We will ensure, especially if the protest was met with aggression of any kind, that we DO NOT WALK ALONE.

Through these guidelines, we aim to keep our protest body and group safe and able to continue in our struggle for progress.
